Introduce a feature that allows staff to flag a care note as involving an unwise decision made by a person receiving support.
Reasons for idea:
To streamline auditing and review processes where mental capacity considerations are required.
To make it easier to identify and evidence occasions where a person has made an unwise decision while having capacity, in line with the Mental Capacity Act principles.
To support DoLS (Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards) applications by providing clear, accessible documentation of relevant decision-making patterns.
Functionality:
A simple tick-box or tag within each care note labelled “Unwise Decision.”
Optional free-text field to record context or rationale.
Filter and reporting options to allow managers to quickly locate all notes marked as unwise decisions.
Who determines what is unwise? If they have the capacity to make a decision you believe to be unwise then they would not lack capacity and would not require a DoLS
